Haggerty Jaques is keen to speak to qualified lawyers who are looking for something different from the norm and are available to cover a period of maternity leave within a specialist complex insurance claims team.

The Opportunity

Instructed by our market-leading corporate insurance client, we are looking to recruit a qualified lawyer into a Claims Executive role that makes use of key legal skills and experience but in a completely different capacity. You’ll be managing high-value and often high-profile Financial Lines insurance claims for a sophisticated portfolio of corporate and financial institution clients. Acting as a trusted adviser throughout the claims journey, you’ll work closely with insurers, solicitors, loss adjusters and other stakeholders to secure the best possible outcomes for your clients. This is not a role in which you will advise on the law or legal processes; instead, it is an opportunity to use your legal knowledge, commercial judgement and relationship management skills in a client-facing advisory role.

What makes this role different is that:

  • You’ll gain expertise within a fascinating area of the insurance market.
  • You won’t record billable hours.
  • Workloads are far more predictable, allowing you to manage your time effectively.
  • You’ll enjoy genuine work-life balance in a collaborative environment with no long-hours culture.

The Ideal Candidate

This role would particularly suit current or former lawyers who enjoy working closely with corporate clients and are looking to apply their legal expertise in a different way. Whilst qualified lawyers are of particular interest, we’d also be pleased to hear from candidates with experience in Financial Lines claims, underwriting or loss adjusting who are looking for a client-focused advisory role. Experience of Directors’ & Officers’ (D&O) insurance would be advantageous but is by no means essential.

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving abilities.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach.
  • A genuine commitment to delivering outstanding client service.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills and a broad understanding of the insurance market.

You can be based in or around Leeds or London, where our client’s offices are located. Hybrid working is offered, although regular office attendance will be required.

What Else Should You Know?

This role will cover a team member’s forthcoming maternity leave and it is hoped the successful candidate will join in November to allow for a comprehensive handover, although an earlier start may also be possible. Importantly, there is genuine potential for the role to become permanent as the business continues to grow. Training is tailored to each individual and begins from day one. You’ll receive excellent support from a highly experienced and welcoming team, many of whom have successfully made the same move from legal practice into insurance. Employee wellbeing is genuinely valued here and the culture is fun, friendly, supportive and collegiate.

In return, you’ll enjoy:

  • Exposure to complex, high-value and often high-profile corporate claims.
  • Structured onboarding and ongoing professional development.
  • Flexible and hybrid working.
  • A collaborative, highly respected team environment.
  • Competitive salary, bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.

Haggerty Jaques is exclusively instructed on this role. Any references to PQE are provided purely as a guide and should not deter candidates with the relevant skills and experience from applying. Haggerty Jaques is committed to promoting equality and diversity. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals, regardless of background.
