Are you an experienced care professional ready to take on a leadership role in a compassionate and dynamic care environment? Hafod Care is looking for a dedicated Senior Care Assistant to join our team and help lead the delivery of exceptional, person-centred care in our elderly care home.
About the Role
As a Senior Care Assistant, in Gwynfa Care Home you will be a key member of the care team, supporting the management in the smooth running of the home. You’ll take the lead in delivering high-quality care, supervising staff, and ensuring residents’ physical, emotional, and medical needs are met with dignity and respect.
This is a permanent role working 23.5hrs per week and to be successful in your application you must be able to travel to this location, and fulfill the working hours each week.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and oversee personal and emotional care tailored to individual needs.
- Lead on care assessments and make informed decisions in emergency situations.
- Liaise directly with GPs, District Nurses, A&E departments, and hospitals to coordinate urgent care and admissions.
- Monitor residents’ health and well-being, including vital signs and behavioural changes, and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Administer and manage medications and maintain accurate records (with appropriate training).
- Support the development, review, and implementation of care plans and risk assessments.
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior care staff, ensuring high standards of practice.
- Promote a safe, clean, and homely environment, and support residents in social activities and outings.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care. Desirable NVQ Level 3 (or working towards it) in Health & Social Care
- Proven experience in a care setting, ideally in a senior or supervisory role.
- Confidence in making clinical decisions and responding to emergencies.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to care.
- Flexibility to work across a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults.

Where you will be working
Gwynfa is a residential care home in the Llanishen area of Cardiff and provides accommodation for 16 residents, each with their own private bedroom. The project provides 24-hour care and support for elderly and people who have experienced poor mental health.
