Molly’s Apprenticeship at The Falconry Experience
8th July 2025
Meet Molly, who is currently completing her Level 2 Animal Care and Welfare Assistant apprenticeship through Haddon Training at The Falconry Experience . A lifelong animal lover, Molly shares how an unexpected summer opportunity sparked her passion for falconry and led her to pursue a career that’s anything but ordinary.
What inspired you to pursue a career working with animals?
I’ve always loved animals, but it was a chance opportunity to work with the falconry over the summer that completely changed my path. I realised I could never see myself in a “normal” job – I love being outside and building that special bond with the animals.
What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship and working at The Falconry Experience?
I have enjoyed the atmosphere of my work placement the most. The people, the birds, the banter – it’s amazing. I’ve also been given incredible opportunities that I’ll always be grateful for and will carry with me throughout my career.
What achievement are you most proud of so far?
Definitely starting to handle the eagles and speaking on demonstrations in front of the public. When I first began, I never imagined I’d have the confidence to talk through a microphone to a crowd, but over time I’ve overcome that fear. Now, I actually enjoy it! Demonstrations aren’t nearly as scary as I once thought.
What has your experience been like as an apprentice with Haddon Training?
My experience with Haddon has been brilliant. They’ve been amazing – especially since living on the island (Isle Of Wight) can make accessing education after school quite difficult, particularly when you’re aiming for a unique job like mine. They’ve supported me all the way, and the staff are so lovely and helpful.
What are your aspirations for the future?
My goal for the future is to continue educating people about the world of falconry – especially younger generations who might not be aware of the amazing opportunities out there. If they think outside the box, they can be like me and find their passion early on, and hopefully stop their dreams from being missed.
