Your local, family‑run, independent garden centre, restaurant and shop Haddenham Garden Centre is an independent family‑owned business that was founded in 1978. We are currently looking for an experienced butcher to join our busy farm shop team. This is a new role with all the serve‑over‑counter and equipment already in place. You’ll work with high‑quality locally sourced meat and play a key role in delivering excellent service to our customers.

In the role you will be preparing and presenting meat for the farm shop and for the kitchen of our busy restaurant the "Gardeners Retreat." You will also work closely with our farm shop chef to develop new products for the farm shop. The position is full time and the hours of work will be an average of 39.5 hours per week and will include working alternate weekends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing, cutting and portioning meats to high standards of quality and presentation for retail in the farm shop and for the restaurant kitchen.
  • Producing added‑value products such as sausages, burgers and marinated and seasoned meats.
  • Preparing and maintaining excellent meat counter displays which are kept well stocked throughout the day.
  • Responsible for stock management in the butchery which includes monitoring stock levels, ordering stock and managing its inventories.
  • Working with the farm shop manager to drive sales and meet KPIs.
  • Upholding the highest food hygiene and health and safety standards, ensuring compliance with all regulations to include all required daily checks.
  • Delivering excellent customer service to our customers offering advice on meat selection and preparation.
  • Supervising and training staff members assisting within the butchery.
  • Assisting in the farm shop and on our deli counter as and when required.
Requirements for the Role
  • Qualified butcher who has ideally worked within a retail butchery environment.
  • Full working knowledge of the procedures of a butchery.
  • Excellent knowledge of food safety and HACCP.
  • Excellent supervisory skills with the ability to lead by example.
  • Strong commercial acumen with an understanding of KPIs and how to drive these with a real emphasis on sales, waste and margins to strengthen Haddenham Garden Centre’s growth.
  • Team player who communicates effectively within the team and across departments.
  • Able to work efficiently to a high standard in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Self‑motivated individual who can work on own initiative and manage own time effectively.
