Job Description

Building and Facilities Manager

Are you a hands-on, highly organised facilities professional who enjoys a mix of project delivery and day-to-day problem solving? Join us at Had Fab as our Building & Facilities Manager, where you’ll play a key role in keeping our buildings safe, compliant, efficient, and ready to support our continued growth.

This is a fully site-based role at our Tranent facility where you’ll be hands-on and present across all buildings and workshop areas.

About Us

Had-Fab is a leader in the design and manufacture of bespoke steel structures for the power, transport, and construction industries. As a key supplier supporting the UK’s 2030 net-zero goals and energy transition, we are proud of our track record in engineering excellence, quality, and innovation. Join a forward-thinking team where your expertise will directly support the growth and transformation of our industry.

About the Role

As Building & Facilities Manager, you’ll take ownership of Had Fab’s buildings, offices, and workshop spaces ensuring they are safe, compliant, well-maintained, and fit for purpose.

This role blends project-based work (refurbishments, upgrades, space planning) with hands-on facilities management, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety.

You’ll coordinate external contractors, manage statutory compliance, support energy efficient improvements, and deliver both minor repairs and larger internal projects. Working closely with our Property Coordinator, you’ll help shape the future of our physical estate as the business continues to expand.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Project Coordination & Improvements

  • Plan and manage refurbishment and upgrade projects
  • Lead office moves and workspace layout change
  • Order and coordinate installation of furniture and equipment
  • Support space planning and energy-efficiency initiatives
  • Take ownership of internal building projects from planning to handover
  • Coordinate contractors and internal teams to ensure new spaces are operational

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Organise routine inspections and preventive maintenance
  • Arrange minor repairs (painting, plumbing, joinery, basic electrical work
  • Respond to reactive maintenance and urgent issues
  • Maintain external areas such as car parks, walkways and entrances
  • Keep accurate records of inspections, repairs, and compliance activities

Compliance & Contractor Management

  • Manage specialist contractors (HVAC, electrical, fire safety, pest control)
  • Ensure full compliance with UK and Scottish building regulations
  • Maintain statutory records, certificates, and inspection reports
  • Lead safety audits, risk assessments, and building inspections

Facilities Administration & Support

  • Track budgets, contractor spend, and supplies
  • Provide reports to senior management on ongoing issues and improvements
  • Support parking, meeting-room logistics and visitor access

Health & Safety Leadership

  • Promote strong HSE standards across all building-related activity
  • Support risk assessments and incident investigations
  • Ensure statutory compliance such as fire safety checks, PAT testing and water hygiene

About You

You’ll be someone with a strong facilities or building management background who takes pride in keeping a site running smoothly. You enjoy being hands-on, solving problems quickly, and delivering improvement projects from start to finish.

You’ll bring:

  • 5+ years in building, facilities or maintenance management (industrial/manufacturing preferred)
  • Skills in minor plumbing, joinery, general repairs or basic electrical work
  • Strong understanding of building regulations and health & safety legislation
  • Experience supervising contractors and reviewing RAMS
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to juggle projects and reactive work
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive, safety-focused mindset
  • A driver’s licence (preferred)

Why Join Us?

  • Make a huge impact on how our site evolves as we expand
  • Make a real impact in a growing, forward-thinking business
  • Enjoy variety, autonomy and the chance to grow your own skills too

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary (£40,000 – £45,000)
  • 28 days annual leave (rising to 33 with service)
  • Birthday day off
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity leave
  • Company pension scheme
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme
  • Regular social events
