We are seeking an experienced and motivated Yard Supervisor to lead our Rosyth Yard operations. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and effective management of structural steel and associated materials across the site. Supporting Production, Fabrication, Logistics, Quality, and HSE teams, you will ensure materials are received, stored, handled, bundled, kitted, loaded, and dispatched in line with production schedules and customer delivery requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Yard Operations & Team Leadership
    • Lead and supervise the Rosyth Yard Team, ensuring compliance with company procedures, standards, and safe systems of work.
    • Plan, organise, and coordinate daily yard activities to support fabrication, galvanising, and delivery schedules.
    • Allocate resources and workloads to maximise productivity and operational efficiency.
    • Monitor team performance, providing guidance, coaching, and support where required.
    • Assist with training, development, and competency assessments of yard personnel.
  • Material Handling, Bundling & Kitting
    • Oversee all bundling, kitting, and material preparation activities to ensure compliance with project and customer requirements.
    • Ensure steelwork and associated components are accurately identified, sorted, labelled, and prepared for dispatch.
    • Verify bundle contents against Bills of Materials, delivery documentation, and customer specifications.
    • Coordinate the movement of materials throughout the site to minimise delays and improve workflow.
    • Ensure all lifting and handling activities are completed safely using appropriate equipment and procedures.
  • Loading & Dispatch
    • Manage loading operations to ensure deliveries are prepared accurately and dispatched on schedule.
    • Ensure loads are secure, compliant, and free from shortages or discrepancies.
    • Liaise with transport providers and logistics teams to coordinate vehicle movements.
    • Monitor daily dispatch activities and communicate any risks or delays promptly.
    • Ensure all delivery documentation is completed accurately and accompanies outgoing loads.
  • Stock Control & Inventory Management
    • Supervise the receipt, unloading, inspection, and storage of incoming materials.
    • Maintain accurate stock records and material traceability.
    • Conduct regular stock checks and cycle counts.
    • Monitor stock levels of consumables and ancillary materials.
    • Support the ongoing development and implementation of inventory management systems, including StruMIS.
  • Production Coordination & Continuous Improvement
    • Work closely with production teams to ensure materials are available to meet project requirements.
    • Maintain awareness of production schedules and proactively resolve material flow issues.
    • Coordinate the movement of completed steelwork between fabrication, storage, and dispatch areas.
    • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and material flow across operational improvement projects and digital system initiatives.
  • Quality, Health & Safety
    • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
    • Conduct regular yard inspections and workplace audits.
    • Ensure excellent housekeeping standards throughout the yard and storage areas.
    • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
    • Support quality initiatives, including NCR investigations and corrective actions.
    • Ensure all materials are handled, stored, and dispatched in accordance with project specifications and quality requirements.
The successful candidate will have:
  • Essential
    • Experience supervising teams within a yard, logistics, manufacturing, steelwork, or construction environment.
    • Strong knowledge of material handling, loading, dispatch, and stock control processes.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
    • A strong commitment to Health & Safety and operational excellence.
    • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Desirable
    • Experience within the structural steel industry.
    • Knowledge of inventory management and material traceability systems.
    • Experience using StruMIS or similar material management software.
    • IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent.
    • Understanding of KPIs, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement methodologies.
