Join to apply for the Youth Support and Development Worker – Children and Families Services role at London Borough of Hackney.

About the Role

Young Hackney delivers universal and targeted youth work programmes for children and young people aged 10-19 years (or up to 25 years with SEND). Our services are embedded in the community and delivered through a network of youth hubs and community settings. We enable young people to build positive relationships with peers, families, schools and the wider community, raising aspirations, encouraging active citizenship and leadership, and supporting the prevention of youth crime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver tailored interventions, targeted group work and open‑access youth work.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with young people and stakeholders by using strong communication skills, energy and a professional approach.
  • Improve young people’s well‑being and address concerns such as crime, educational engagement and sexually harmful behaviour.
  • Provide services predominantly after school, evenings and weekends to meet the times most convenient for young people.
  • Maintain an enhanced DBS check and uphold high standards of safeguarding.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Professional or occupational qualification in youth work, teaching, social work, or health (desirable).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Clear understanding of evidence‑based practice, youth work methodologies and effective practice in youth participation and children’s rights.
  • Experience in open‑access youth work and delivery of tailored interventions.

Working Hours

Unlike typical office roles, this position requires availability after school, evenings and weekends to support young people at times that best meet their needs.

Application Process

We operate a fair and open anonymous selection process. Supporting statements, CVs or attachments are not accepted. Applicants must create an account and complete a series of competency‑based questions that demonstrate suitability for the role. We encourage applicants to showcase their own voice and unique skills.
