Our Environment and Climate Change Division, within the Climate, Homes & Economy directorate, manages the borough’s street scene, including highways, drainage, footways, bridges, street lighting and furniture, while advancing air‑pollution and climate‑change action, green-space development, public transport support and walk‑and‑cycle‑friendly streets.

The role

We are seeking an experienced people manager to lead a technical support team for Hackney’s Streetscene service. The role is both internal and customer‑focused, requiring interaction with senior officers, residents and occasionally politicians.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team that provides technical support to Streetscene.
  • Develop, implement and use ICT systems and new ways of working within Streetscene.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to adopt innovative approaches and implement projects that improve technical support delivery and meet corporate and legislative requirements.
  • Maintain relationships with senior officers, residents and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a people manager, leading a technical support team.
  • Working knowledge in highways, engineering, traffic management and/or transportation planning.
  • Experience with new technologies such as AI to improve processes and services in professional environments.
  • Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
