Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values. Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there; we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.

The Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) Services Team within Hackney Council is looking for an experienced professional to work with our TMOs to deliver excellent services to their residents. Housing is a top priority in Hackney; this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your management skills as part of a small team that works closely with TMO staff and board members as well as with other departments and teams within the Council.

As one of our TMO Liaison Officers, you will provide strategic and operational support to existing TMOs in Hackney, and develop and maintain an effective client monitoring system. You will advise on and monitor TMO governance, financial performance and service delivery. You will also support and monitor the progress of residents’ groups that wish to become TMOs and provide expert advice to TMOs who wish to take on additional responsibilities.

We need someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills who can develop effective professional working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels. You will need to be able to analyse and evaluate data, understand complex legislation and give clear guidance and advice. You will also be able to resolve complex issues or complaints.

This role would suit someone with a background in housing, governance, compliance or finance. The successful candidate should have a good understanding of, and a commitment to, social housing and resident involvement. You should also be familiar with a range of IT packages.

To thrive here you will need a good eye for detail and a flexible approach. The nature of the work means you may spend time away from your desk working with TMOs and other departments and teams within the Council. You will also be required to work some evenings and weekends. You should be passionate about providing good quality housing services and be keen to bring new ideas to improve our internal systems and processes.

If you want to discuss the role further please contact Modi Abdoul, Head of Resident Participation, TMO & Communities.
