School Crossing Patrol Officer

Job Overview

Seventeen part‑time positions (11 hours per week, term‑time only, 39‑week contract) are available as part of Hackney Council’s School Crossing Patrol service. Positions are based at All Saints Catholic High School (N16), Hoxton Gardens (N1), and St John the Baptist (N1). Candidates are expected to live within a 30‑minute walking distance of their assigned site.

Salary

• Minimum (under 5 years service): £6,960.00 (based on 515.2 paid hours).
• Maximum (over 5 years service): £7,108.59 (based on 526.2 paid hours). These figures use an hourly rate of £13.5093.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the face of the council at a fixed position each day and help school children and others get to their destinations safely.
• Provide assistance and support to anyone requiring help while maintaining a friendly and approachable presence.
• Support the safety and welfare of the local community and contribute to the overall function of the School Crossing Patrol service.

Requirements

• Part‑time role (11 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, term‑time only).
• Ability to travel to the locally‑assigned site and maintain consistent service in all weathers.
• Successful completion of a full medical examination, an Enhanced DBS check, and provision of completed references.
• Understanding of the rules for road users and pedestrians.
• Full training and uniform are provided.
