Location: Hackney Education

Are you a creative and passionate teacher committed to inclusive practice? This is an exciting opportunity for experienced SEND teachers and SENCo to bring their knowledge and expertise into our service and help shape the future of inclusion for children and young people in Hackney.
Our key priority is to improve the life chances of every child, young person and learner: making Hackney the most forward looking education providers in the UK. We are committed to ensuring that our schools and settings create a sense of belonging for all children, no matter what their special educational needs or disability. We want children and young people to be able to grow, learn, develop and achieve – and offer one of the best places for colleagues to work and thrive in our education system.
To progress our ambitious plans for the 2026 SEND Reform, we are looking for 5 new Specialist Teachers to join the team. Hackney's Specialist Teachers work in partnership with families, schools, and multi‐agency teams to meet the additional needs of diverse pupil populations using neuroaffirmative, evidence‐based approaches. They offer a crucial service to settings, modelling and developing on‐site teaching, planning, and small‐group interventions. They build capacity and empower educational settings by offering professional advice and training to help them identify and support children's needs via the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle.
To be successful in this role, you will hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and possess a specialist qualification such as NASENCO, NPQSENCO, or a Post Graduate/MA in SEND.
You will bring:
- Proven success in teaching within mainstream or special settings (primary, secondary, or Post 16)
- Experience in delivering impactful training and working collaboratively with families and carers.
- Strong knowledge of SEND legislation (e.g., Children & Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice, 2026 SEND reforms) and the National Curriculum.
- The ability to monitor, evaluate, and evidence the impact of interventions using data‐driven approaches.
- A commitment to continuous professional development and the principles of inclusion.
If you have any questions or would like an informal discussion about the role, please contact Lydia Scaletti, Specialist Area Lead (lydia.Scaletti@hackney.gov.uk).
