Overview
The Underwriting Ratings Manager will lead and continually evolve the organisation's rating capabilities to ensure the effectiveness of underwriting rates for D&G UK. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining strong governance over rating processes and systems, ensuring rates are accurately assessed, monitored, and deployed into key rating systems across the UK. The role will also ensure compliance with underwriting processes and industry best practices in the UK and ROI regions where the organisation operates.
Responsibilities
- Drive the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of underwriting rating frameworks, tools, and processes aligned to regulatory expectations and business needs.
- Accountable for ensuring continuity of our rating systems and the outputs used for key business units including Finance, Clients, pricing, and call centres.
- Central to the underwriting rating transformation program to move the system to WIB in the future.
- Accountable for governance and tracking of rating changes, with a key lead with auditors and process management.
- Interact with Head of Finance, Underwriting Managers, Head of Pricing, Client teams, Tech, and Product managers to balance key requests with continuous delivery and monitoring of the rating that sits within underwriting parameters.
Experience
- 3+ years of experience in underwriting rating systems, rating deployments, pricing systems, database management or a closely related field.
- Proven experience in managing rating deployments across multiple environments with strong controls and checking processes.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving, analytical and logical thinking skills.
Technical Skills
- Extensive experience with rating systems such as AS400, Ratabase, WIMA.
- Proficiency in conducting rating analysis, prioritisation, governance management.
- Data analysis experience using SQL and Power BI.
Communication Skills
- Strong maths, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to hold prioritisation discussions with key business stakeholders.
Project Management
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and manage a large portfolio of clients.
Educational Background
- A degree in maths, science, data, computing or a numerical based degree is useful.
Additional Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, working closely to understand business problems.
- Drive continuous improvement across rating platforms and processes by identifying optimisation and automation opportunities that improve performance, efficiency and control.
- Govern end-to-end change control, testing (UAT/regression) and release sign-off for rating updates, ensuring appropriate approvals and a clear audit trail.
- Establish and maintain rating governance and controls, including monitoring, MI, documentation/operating procedures and audit-ready evidence of decisions and changes.
- Coordinate incident management for rating defects, including triage, root-cause analysis, fixes and preventative controls with Technology.
- Translate underwriting and commercial requirements into clear business rules and prioritise delivery with Technology and business stakeholders.
- Partner with business teams to set ratings for OEM and retail clients across UK and EU countries working with the US Underwriters for shared best practices.
- Oversee audit or regulatory response efforts when required.
