The Opportunity: We are looking for a Backend Lead to take the technical helm of a high-profile digital project. The role involves overseeing delivery and acting as the technical heartbeat of backend services that power complex website and mobile app environments using Node. It is suited for a hands-on technical expert who enjoys scaling complex microservices in the cloud while managing a distributed backend engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Excellence & Execution: Lead by example in high-quality Node coding for cloud-deployed digital websites (React/Node) and mobile applications (React Native/Node). Work with Technical Architects to ensure long-term health of the backend ecosystem, orchestrating integrations with platforms like Commerce Tools, Bloomreach, Amplience, and supporting a separate Salesforce backend team. Set backend engineering standards: robust API design, secure cloud deployment practices, and insightful code reviews.
- Team Leadership & Delivery Management: Deliver on-time backend outcomes, ensuring adherence to budgets and quality. Manage a distributed team of onshore and nearshore backend developers, maintaining velocity and consistent backend standards across geographical boundaries. Mentor developers through coaching and peer reviews to foster a collaborative environment.
- Stakeholder Management: Navigate a multi-faceted stakeholder landscape, discussing API design with engineering teams and business value with senior executives (C-suite/CxO level).
What You’ll Bring:
- Extensive professional experience with Node and modern backend microservices.
- Solid experience building and deploying scalable backend services in cloud environments; Microsoft Azure hands-on experience is highly advantageous.
- Proven experience managing and leading distributed onshore and nearshore backend development teams.
