hackajob is collaborating with Sage to connect them with exceptional professionals for this role. Sage is a forward-thinking technology company specialising in software. The team you’d be joining is committed to building a robust culture of belonging. We foster a fast-paced, innovative environment where experimentation and continuous improvement are highly valued. Our infrastructure is built on AWS, enabling us to deliver robust, scalable solutions to our clients.

The team you will be part of is responsible for designing and building cloud products that support the integration of payroll products with SageHR and other connected services and deliver value to the customer and the business across multiple geographic regions. Initially, you’ll focus on delivering a modular, API-based suite of UI components that underpins our Embedded Payroll Service. You’ll work closely with UX Design colleagues, Architecture and Product Management, before moving on to deliver the overall product alongside Developers and QA Engineers. You’ll be part of a squad with strong leadership and a mix of principal, senior, mid-level and graduate engineers to support your growth—along with a leader who will invest in your career. This is a hybrid role - three days per week in our Newcastle office.

In This Role, You’ll:

  • Work closely with UX to guide design decisions and define business requirements.
  • Work with external parties and internal stakeholders to gather requirements and feed into the UX design process.
  • Translate UX designs into build-ready requirements captured in user stories, acceptance criteria, functional requirements and non-functional requirements.
  • Understand the importance of legislation in HCM software and translate legislative and compliance obligations.
  • Be an integral part of the delivery team, helping to develop and maintain a high-quality, scalable front-end application that integrates with internal APIs to deliver a complete solution.
  • Work closely with Product Management, UX, Architecture, Development and QA to understand and translate customer needs.
  • Understand API documentation and work closely with the engineering team to understand API capabilities, ensuring coherent service logic between the API and UI.

General Responsibilities:

  • Participate in refinement sessions, presenting backlog stories (clear user stories supported by rigorous acceptance criteria) for discussion and agreement with the engineering team.
  • Create, share and maintain relevant documentation to support engineering delivery as required.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our software development lifecycle.
  • Be an active, enthusiastic team player and partner effectively with colleagues to deliver against commitments.
  • Collaborate with global teams across Sage to define, design, deliver and maintain services across the Payroll and HR business unit.
  • Contribute and/or support sprint ceremonies—for example, run refinement sessions, contribute to sprint reviews when required, and contribute to stand-ups.
  • Document API dependency mapping, including inputs, outputs and outcomes.
  • Understand, design and support the building of API based backend applications.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience using Jira.
  • Experience with Agile delivery and Scrum (an advantage).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience using Figma.
  • Experience using Miro, Visio or Lucid.
  • Experience working with corporate design library systems.
  • Experience working with external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of API services and microservices principles.
  • Experience working on legislation critical or compliance projects.
  • Stakeholder management experience across Product Management, development teams, Product Design Managers, Team Leads, Business Analysts, internal teams and external parties.
