If you have a strong background in advising on financial services regulation and enjoy working closely with business colleagues to help shape and commercialise products on an agile basis, this is the role for you.

Reporting directly to the Head of Legal (Commercial and Product), this position offers a blend of professional variety and personal fulfilment. As this is a new role, you'll have the autonomy to shape and own your areas of responsibility while building strong relationships across the business. This means you'll have the active opportunity to shape how we work as a business from a hands‐on policy and risk management perspective, and may also bring the opportunity to manage junior team members in due course as the team and business grows.

Join us in building a legal function that delivers a best‐in‐class service, collaborating seamlessly with all teams. Moneybox is at an exciting stage of growth, and our Legal Team is right in the thick of it. We've laid a strong foundation and are now ready to scale up our support as the business continues to scale. This is your chance to make a tangible impact and contribute to our ongoing success.

What you'll do:

  • Act as a key strategic adviser to the Product Team and other business teams to help enable the rollout of new products, features, promotions and services from initial strategy sessions to launch, in line with Moneybox's commercial objectives and business strategy.
  • Identify and address product, regulatory, privacy and other legal risks and mitigations within the financial regulatory environment.
  • Develop strategies for handling legal issues in creative ways and build processes for scaling flexible solutions that address risk.
  • Help propose and advance Product policies and ensure ongoing compliance of products and services with internal policies, procedures and processes in accordance with all applicable laws and financial regulation.
  • Assist with the drafting and updating of customer‐facing terms and conditions.
  • Assist with wider Commercial matters, including drafting, negotiating and advising on agreements with suppliers, banking partners, marketing and IT procurement.
  • Assist the Compliance Team with regulatory queries.
  • Provide training and education to the business on legal matters.
  • Stay up‐to‐date on relevant legal/financial services regulatory developments and proactively advise the business on potential impacts.
  • Work closely with and manage external legal advisors.

Experience And Skills:

  • 8+ years PQE lawyer, with strong financial services regulatory experience, ideally from a top law firm. If you have spent some time in a fast‐paced and high‐growth business, that's definitely a bonus.
  • Excellent knowledge of financial services regulations, including the FCA Handbook (BCOBS, Consumer Duty, CASS) and FSMA (including the FinProm regs), as well as wider consumer protection issues, including Data Protection.
  • Experience of developing or advising on saving and investing products with aggregators is highly desirable.
  • Highly collaborative, comfortable with ambiguity and able to provide pragmatic, business‐oriented advice within the complex financial regulatory environment in which Moneybox works.
  • Experience of dealing with FCA queries.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating customer‐facing terms and conditions, as well as a wider range of commercial agreements.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to juggle and prioritise a large number of competing matters.
  • Pragmatic approach to advice, with the ability to understand our business and apply an appropriate commercial lens to reviews.
  • Enthusiasm for innovation, automation and improving how Legal services at Moneybox are delivered.
  • Strong relationship‐building and influencing skills, particularly with those at a senior level.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal, including being able to explain complex regulatory matters clearly to non‐lawyers.

*PQE is a guide – your ability and skills are worth more to us than your years qualified.
