Provide in-depth performance analysis and reporting across investment portfolios and act as subject matter expert for performance related queries. The Performance Analysis & Attribution team works closely with Fixed Income Portfolio Managers, Risk, and client‑facing partners to explain portfolio performance across Vanguard’s global fund range. We provide insight into return drivers including portfolio positioning, market movements, trading activity, and accounting impacts to support informed investment decision‑making. This role sits within the Fixed Income Performance Analysis team and supports both active and index fixed income strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fixed income performance measurement, attribution, and analysis across daily, monthly, and ad‑hoc reporting cycles.
  • Produce accurate and timely performance and attribution outputs, ensuring consistency with benchmarks and internal standards.
  • Explain fixed income performance drivers across dimensions such as sector, security, duration, yield curve, spread, and currency, translating technical results into clear, investment‑relevant insights.
  • Partner with Fixed Income Portfolio Managers, Risk, and Product stakeholders to support decision‑making through robust analysis.
  • Investigate and resolve performance and attribution breaks using structured root‑cause analysis, escalating issues appropriately.
  • Maintain and enhance performance and attribution models within established frameworks, applying industry‑standard methodologies.
  • Utilise analytical tools and large datasets (e.g. Excel, SQL, Python) to support analysis, automation, and efficiency improvements.
  • Apply Vanguard’s risk and control standards to ensure data integrity, governance, and audit readiness.
  • Identify and contribute to opportunities to improve processes, scalability, and automation.
  • Share knowledge and best practices and support team collaboration and development.
  • Participate in projects and other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience; interest in CIPM or CFA preferred.
  • Three or more years’ experience in investment performance, attribution, or a related analytical role.
  • Strong knowledge of fixed income markets, instruments, and portfolio management concepts.
  • Experience applying fixed income attribution methodologies and performance measurement techniques.
  • Fund accounting knowledge and familiarity with IBOR and ABOR preferred, with the ability to explain both investment and accounting impacts on performance.
  • Knowledge of BlackRock Solutions Aladdin is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to communicate insights clearly.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools; experience with SQL or Python is beneficial.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with increasing independence.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, global environment.
