We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join our Finance team at Octopus Energy Services. This role reports to the CFO and will be central to the day‑to‑day financial operations, including the preparation of financial reports, month‑end processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly divisional and consolidated management accounts; liaise with finance representatives to finalize results and report variances.
- Own the annual audit process, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors, and prepare statutory accounts in accordance with IFRS.
- Ensure all reporting is compliant with relevant accounting standards and remain up‑to‑date with new reporting standards that may impact the company.
- Act as the first point of contact for technical accounting and financial reporting.
- Perform balance‑sheet and inter‑company reconciliations to ensure the integrity of the general ledger and financial records.
- Review monthly VAT returns and liaise with tax to provide necessary reporting.
- Manage and develop the financial reporting team, promoting high standards and reviewing their work as necessary.
- Provide support in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Drive continuous process innovation to improve reporting accuracy, strengthen controls, and improve efficiency.
Qualifications
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CPA, essential).
- At least 3 years post‑qualification experience in a financial accounting or similar role.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS accounting standards, including leasing.
- Prior experience managing complex audits.
- Experience with inventory accounting.
- Comfortable and confident presenting to senior leaders.
- Proactive, self‑motivated, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with financial accounting software (NetSuite) is beneficial.
