Overview of the Global Synthetics IT Lead role at HSBC. The position leads the Prime Synthetics Technology programme and develops the technology stack underpinning the Prime Synthetics offering.
Responsibilities
- Own the global Synthetics/Prime platform, including architecture, scalability, resilience, and performance.
- Define and execute the strategic roadmap, aligning business growth, regulatory requirements, and technology modernization.
- Lead new initiatives across product expansion (e.g., equity swaps, TRS, structured products) and platform capabilities.
- Provide deep expertise in synthetics and swaps, including Total Return Swaps (TRS), CFDs, and financing structures.
- Lead and scale a distributed global team (~30 FTEs) across engineering, TPM, and product functions.
- Act as the primary interface for global stakeholders across Trading, Risk, Operations, Compliance, and Technology.
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, including DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and observability.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in financial services, with strong exposure to synthetics, swaps, and prime services with oversight of high-volume swap calculation engines.
- Proven track record of leading large-scale global platforms and delivering complex transformation programs.
- Deep understanding of equities market structure, derivatives lifecycle, and risk management.
- Extensive knowledge of synthetics products and swaps (TRS, equity derivatives).
- Strong understanding of electronic trading platforms and low-latency systems (ideally SwapOne).
- Experience with DevOps practices, cloud platforms, and modern engineering tooling.
