Software Engineer - Java in Glasgow

Join us as a Senior Java Software Engineer, where you will play a key role within our Markets Technology team, delivering innovative solutions that support Securities Lending, Liquidity Finance and Prime Brokerage businesses.

Our team is responsible for building and enhancing strategic platforms that support efficient trade processing, collateral optimisation and client servicing across global markets.

This role offers the opportunity to design, develop and maintain high-performing, scalable applications that support critical business functions.

You will work closely with business analysts, architects, testers and fellow engineers to deliver robust technology solutions, contribute to technical design discussions and support continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.

Your knowledge and experience will help shape key technology priorities that improve operational efficiency, support business growth and strengthen Barclays' ability to serve clients in a changing market environment.

To be successful as a Senior Java Software Engineer, you must have the following essential skills:

• Experience designing and delivering scalable, high-performing applications using Java, Spring and SQL within large-scale enterprise environments.
• Knowledge of containerisation technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes, and experience using Kafka or equivalent messaging technologies to build resilient, secure and event-driven solutions across distributed systems.
• The ability to build effective relationships with business analysts, project managers, testers, architects and engineering teams, communicate technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences and use Unix command-line tools to support development, troubleshooting, deployment and operational activities.
• Some Other Highly Valued Skills May Include
• Knowledge of Securities Lending, Liquidity Finance or Prime Brokerage, particularly the Securities Borrowing & Lending (SBL) trade lifecycle and collateral processes.
• Experience developing UI/Frontend applications using Java Script.
• Experience working within large-scale financial services or capital markets environments.
