Join Barclays as a Cloud Platform Engineer, where you will play a key role in building and maintaining the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data. In this position, you will design and support scalable data platforms—including data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes—ensuring that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure. Working at the heart of our cloud ecosystem, you’ll help enable decision‑making across the organisation while contributing to the reliability, performance, and innovation of our technology landscape.

Technical Skills Required:

  • AWS (networking/compute/storage), ECS/Kubernetes/OpenShift, CI/CD, IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation), and building highly available multi‑AZ systems
  • Databricks (Spark), Python/Spark development, large‑scale data pipelines, and workflow orchestration (Airflow)
  • SRE/DevOps practices, model deployment/monitoring, and considerable security/compliance (IAM, secrets management, PII protection)

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Exposure to data streaming and messaging systems such as Apache Kafka, and experience integrating streaming data pipelines with batch processing systems.
  • Familiarity with deploying and managing microservices and web applications (Java backends, React frontends) on container platforms (ECS, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS), including basic administration, performance tuning, and data backup/recovery strategies.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain data architecture pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete and consistent data.
  • Design and implement data warehouses and data lakes that manage the appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to the required security measures.
  • Develop processing and analysis algorithms suited for the intended data complexity and volumes.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to build and deploy machine learning models.
