The Applied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) team in Infrastructure Platforms is transforming the operations of the world’s largest bank by advancing how we deliver foundational infrastructure platforms and solutions for our business, both using AI/ML in our work and the creation of AI hosting platforms.

We are looking for an Executive Director to lead the development of a small team of specialists. This team will be responsible for creating horizontal capabilities in the form of APIs, libraries, and thought leadership coupled with practical hands‑on acceleration for key products we are building. We seek a team member with a strong foundation in artificial intelligence and software engineering, along with practical experience leading the development and production operation of AI systems in enterprise environments.

As an Applied AI/ML Director within the Infrastructure Platforms group you will lead a team of experts to develop horizontal capabilities through APIs, libraries, and thought leadership. You will collaborate with Line of Business AI teams to address priority use cases, design and build services, and promote best practices in AI. Your role will involve mentoring a team of AI engineers and ensuring the firm stays at the forefront of AI advancements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist our AI teams to directly solve for priority use cases within the domain, leveraging firm‑wide solutions and extending where needed.
  • Ensure all our AI/ML solutions have security and data protection at their core.
  • Design and build services and libraries that our AI teams want to use and ensure responsible AI engineering is central to how we work.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of AI engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Partner across our organisation to advance AI/ML understanding, share learning and embed standards.
  • Drive best practice as a community leader and ensure AI practitioners in the firm stay up to date with the latest advances.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary AI engineering teams.
  • 10 years software engineering experience including large‑scale production systems.
  • Deep understanding of AI fundamentals and practical experience with data analysis and experimental design.
  • Recent hands‑on experience training, deploying models and pipelines.
  • Familiarity with distributed computing patterns for training, serving, persistence of state.
  • Experience in building and leading high‑performing AI teams.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Able to influence key decision makers with compelling technical arguments.
