Acting as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, you will translate complex requirements into clear, actionable designs that enable seamless system integration and efficient delivery.

In this role, you will analyze business needs, perform gap analysis, and design payment journeys that align with both operational and technical requirements. You will work closely with developers to ensure solutions are well understood and effectively implemented, while communicating complex concepts clearly to a range of stakeholders. Your work will directly contribute to the development and optimisation of payment applications and infrastructure.

To be successful as a Functional Designer, you should have experience with:

  • Strong ability to translate business requirements into end-to-end solution designs, particularly within payment journeys.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including experience in gap analysis.
  • Working knowledge of ISO20022 payment messages and interface specifications for system integration.
  • Basic understanding of payment applications and processing environments.

Some Other Highly Valued Skills May Include:

  • Knowledge of instant payment schemes such as Faster Payments (FPS) or SEPA.
  • Familiarity with payment message formats, including ISO8583 and ISO20022 (pacs, pain, admi).
  • Experience working in Agile environments, including writing features and user stories.

This role is based in Knutsford, with a hybrid working model of working a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

Purpose of the role:

To collaborate with product owners and other technical teams involved in the product development process and utilise their knowledge of the bank’s technologies to enact the vision defined in the product roadmap.

Accountabilities:

  • Provision of subject matter expertise to support the collaboration between the product owner and the technical side of product development.
  • Support the development and implementation of the product strategy and vision defined in the product roadmap and communicate them with the relevant stakeholders and the development team.
  • Collaboration with internal stakeholders to gather and prioritise product requirements and features based on business value and feasibility that are well defined, measurable and secure.
  • Development and implementation of assessments to ensure continuous testing and improvement of product quality and performance.
  • Monitoring of product performance to identify opportunities for optimisation that meets the banks performance standards.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry technology trends and technologies, to evaluate and adopt new approaches to improve product development and delivery.

Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.

Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function. Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.

Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc.) to solve problems creatively and effectively. Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience. Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
