Join us as a Credit Risk Portfolio Analyst within Barclays where you will help shape the future of banking by monitoring and managing credit risk across lending products such as loans and credit cards. It focuses on determining customer eligibility through credit checks, supporting effective credit risk management, and producing high quality management information to track portfolio performance.

Day-to-day, the role involves running SAS scripts, producing regular reporting and insight packs for senior management, and supporting decision-making through accurate analysis. The position acts as a stepping stone into broader portfolio and credit risk management roles, offering exposure to data-driven risk monitoring and governance activities. The role can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification with a strong analytical focus, ideally within a STEM, quantitative, or data-driven discipline.
  • Proven experience working as an analyst, with the ability to operate as a proactive self-starter.
  • Experience using programming or analytical languages to run coding scripts and analyse, interpret, and validate data outputs.
  • Considerable ability to understand, interpret, and identify trends and patterns within complex datasets.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with strong numerical capability and a logical, structured approach to analysis.

Desirable Skills

  • Strong credit risk and financial analysis skills, with the ability to assess and interpret financial performance and risk indicators.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Experience querying and analysing data from relational databases using SAS, alongside strong knowledge of advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Experience working within a financial services environment, with an understanding of regulated business contexts.

Purpose of the role

To manage and optimise the bank’s overall credit risk exposure by monitoring, analysing, and reporting on the creditworthiness of its lending portfolio.

Accountabilities

  • Monitoring the financial performance and risk profile of the entire lending portfolio, including individual borrowers, sectors, and geographic regions.
  • Analysis of credit trends, identifying early warning signs of potential borrowers’ issues, and assessing the impact of economic and market developments on the portfolio.
  • Development and utilisation of quantitative models and risk forecasting tools to measure and predict potential credit losses.
  • Performance of portfolio stress-testing exercises to assess the impact of various economic and market scenarios on the portfolio’s risk profile.
  • Definition and setting of portfolio, segment, and customer risk appetite, policy and limits.
  • Overseeing first-line execution within these parameters.
