hackajob is collaborating with Sainsbury's DTD to connect them with exceptional professionals for this role. We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. Everything our Nectar team does is powered by data and by strong relationships with some of the UK’s favourite brands. The Nectar360 team develops loyalty programmes, turning insight into something that makes a real difference, across both traditional and digital media. It’s like an agency within a retailer, and retail media is a crucial part of our future. The culture might not be what you expect either, because there’s no setup quite like this one. The team is a real priority, connected to almost everything the business does and playing a key role in driving profitability. It’s a place where you can take risks, learn from them, and be recognised.
At Nectar360, we’re building a data‑led media and insights business that helps create stronger connections between brands and customers. The Planning team sits at the heart of that ambition, turning customer data into insight‑led recommendations that support growth for clients, the wider Argos business and the Sainsbury’s Group. This role sits within a fast‑growing area focused on General Merchandise, where digital investment and retail media innovation continue to play an important role in commercial growth. You’ll join a team working across onsite, in‑store, above‑the‑line and off‑site media opportunities, helping shape how brands connect with customers through the Argos and Nectar360 proposition.
As Client Planning Director, you’ll lead the development of insight‑led media recommendations and client plans across the Argos and Sainsbury’s channel toolkit. Reporting to the Planning Director, you’ll be responsible for leading a team of three and driving strategic planning across a broad General Merchandise portfolio. This includes identifying supplier opportunities within the corporate customer plan, developing multi‑brand retail media activations and ensuring recommendations align customer insight, client objectives, and wider trade and marketing plans. Day to day, you’ll work closely with colleagues across Nectar360 and Argos, including commercial, marketing, digital and proposition teams, as well as external clients, suppliers and agencies. You’ll oversee the creation, presentation and evaluation of media activation plans, support the commercialisation of omni‑channel assets, and lead testing and experimentation to improve impact and embed learning into ongoing ways of working. Alongside delivering plans and proposals, you’ll manage team priorities, oversee workload and project delivery, and contribute to the development of the wider Planning function and broader Nectar360 business.
You’ll bring expertise in customer data, retail media and insight‑led planning, with the ability to turn complex information into clear recommendations that support both client goals and business priorities. You’ll be comfortable working with large datasets and analytical approaches used in retail media and loyalty campaigns, and able to bring data strategies to life in a clear and commercially relevant way. You’ll also have experience leading projects and managing teams, with the ability to work across multiple business functions and balance competing priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills are important in this role, alongside the ability to quality check work, respond to briefs and build productive relationships with senior stakeholders, clients and suppliers. You’ll be confident working in a fast‑moving environment and able to support a team through clear priorities, coaching and goal setting. Advanced use of PowerPoint and Excel is also important for delivering high‑quality planning output.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrable experience using customer data and analytical techniques to develop retail media or loyalty campaign recommendations.
- Experience leading a team, including setting priorities, overseeing delivery and supporting performance through coaching and goal setting.
- Experience building and presenting insight‑led plans or proposals for clients, suppliers or senior stakeholders.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally with 3rd parties, commercial, marketing, digital and planning teams to deliver against shared business objectives.
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint for analysing information and presenting recommendations clearly.
