hackajob is collaborating with Redgate Software to connect them with exceptional tech professionals for this role. Redgate creates simple software to help data professionals get the most value out of any database. Our solutions solve complex database management challenges across the DevOps lifecycle, making life easier for IT leaders, development, and operations teams by increasing efficiency, reducing errors, and protecting business-critical data. The data community trusts Redgate to balance speed to market, team collaboration, and data protection.
At Redgate, we build ingeniously simple tools for the world’s most complex data environments. Behind the scenes, our Infrastructure Team keeps Redgate running smoothly — from networks and virtualisation platforms to Windows systems, identity services, and cloud environments. We’re looking for an Infrastructure Engineer with strong foundations in classic infrastructure who enjoys solving real-world problems, improving reliability, and using scripting and automation to make things simpler and more robust. Achieving work-life balance has never been more important and so Redgate has adopted a flexible-hybrid model. For this role, we are seeking candidates near our Cambridge, UK office.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting and improving Redgate’s on-prem infrastructure, including networking, virtualisation and storage
- Building, maintaining and improving Windows environments, including server administration and core Windows services
- Using scripting (PowerShell preferred) to automate tasks, improve repeatability, and reduce manual effort
- Supporting identity platforms including Active Directory, ADFS, Entra, SSO and MFA solutions
- Owning and managing Redgate’s local networks, WiFi, switches, firewalls and internet connections
- Maintaining and improving infrastructure reliability through monitoring, troubleshooting and continuous improvement
- Configuring, monitoring and testing backups to ensure reliable recovery when needed
- Acting as an escalation point for complex infrastructure incidents and Service Desk issues
- Working with suppliers and external support teams to resolve technical issues
- Working under the guidance of the Security Manager to help identify and remediate infrastructure vulnerabilities
- Making pragmatic “value decisions” — build vs buy, physical vs cloud, and where best to standardise
What we’re looking for
Essential Experience
- Strong experience in traditional infrastructure — networking, virtualisation and storage
- Windows systems — server administration and core Windows services
- Scripting fundamentals — automating tasks, solving problems, improving repeatability (PowerShell is a plus)
- Troubleshooting infrastructure issues across multiple layers (network / compute / storage / OS)
- Working in operational environments where availability, resilience and good incident response matter
Beneficial (but not essential)
- Working comfortably in the command line
- Cloud platforms (AWS for preference, but not essential)
- Identity and access services (AD, ADFS, Entra, SSO, MFA)
- Linux administration
- Infrastructure tooling such as Puppet or Terraform (or other automation/IaC tooling)
- VMware and Veeam (our preferred virtualisation and backup platforms — but not a requirement)
- Monitoring / observability tools (e.g., Icinga, Elastic/Kibana, or similar)
What you’ll be like
- Curious and motivated — you enjoy understanding how things work
- Pragmatic — you can balance stability, automation, and business needs
- Approachable and reliable — trusted to own systems and make sound decisions
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively across teams
Salary
ÂŁ55,000 - ÂŁ70,000 dependent upon experience
