About the role
We're looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to join our client's team. You'll lead and inspire engineers to design, automate, build, manage, and optimise modern digital service platforms — working in a fast-paced environment where you'll be trusted to make sound, reasoned decisions. As the technical leader embedded in the client's team, you'll work closely with their stakeholders, share knowledge across the organisation, and mentor those around you.
What you'll be doing
- Collaborating across the client's engineering, testing, consulting, product management, and security functions to build, test, and deploy software of the highest quality.
- Championing the latest technologies aligned with industry best practices for maximum user and business benefit.
- Sharing knowledge through the client's communities of practice and wider industry engagement.
- Providing clear technical direction and leadership, solving challenging problems on delivery and support projects.
- Managing, coaching, and developing a small number of staff within the client's team, with a focus on performance and career growth.
- Fostering a DevOps culture and acting as a role model for the people around you.
What we're looking for
- Strong verbal and written communication skills — able to explain complex technical design clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven experience of team leadership and supporting a DevOps culture in delivering or supporting complex projects.
- Significant expertise designing, building, testing, automating, monitoring, and improving reliability of modern digital service platforms in production.
- Experience using Continuous Delivery and automation techniques for releasing operationally ready software, including platform orchestration with configuration management tools.
- Demonstrable experience building and supporting modern digital service platforms — covering architecture, design, estimation, planning, and agile iteration.
- Experience championing Site Reliability Engineering tooling, techniques, and processes (e.g. monitoring, platform modernisation, cost optimisation).
- Hands-on use of a public cloud platform — AWS — including SaaS/PaaS offerings.
Nice to have
- Certification with a public cloud provider (AWS).
- Certification in a specialist area, e.g. Kubernetes CKAD.
Who you are
You're determined in how you overcome obstacles, honest in how you deal with others, respectful of those around you, creative in finding solutions to complex problems, and cooperative in sharing information and experience.
