Role Description: BAE Systems have been contracted to undertake the design and build of a dedicated Security Operations Centre (SOC) to support the cyber defence of a major international defence programme. The information, systems and networks to be protected will be a mix of Microsoft Cloud services and on-premises data centres straddling multiple regions and classification levels. We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual with excellent technical and client-facing skills, to act as Security Architect to lead, architect and design of Security Operations Centre solutions delivered to customers.

This is a senior role and the individual will be expected to lead and shape security of solutions across Services, People, Policy and Process, Technology and Physical Infrastructure layers and help lead teams to meet requirements and achieve objectives.

  • Engage with client stakeholders to understand and/or define security requirements, including any accreditation requirements.
  • Lead the security aspects of the architecture and design for SOC solutions (across service, people, process, technology and physical layers) including input to CONOPS, high level designs, low level designs and deployment level designs.
  • Security aspects of engineering leadership and engineering management for delivery of security Operations Centre solutions through all stages of the engineering lifecycle from concept, through requirements definition, design & build to transition into service operation.
  • Overall responsibility for delivery of solution security aspects and ensure designs meet key functional and non-functional security requirements.
  • Key contributor to engineering leadership and management for solutions delivered to customers.
  • Contribute to the development of solution architectures (across service, people, process, technology and physical layers) in collaboration with other design team members.
  • Support the design of a range of security tools, such as: Splunk and Sentinel SIEM, Nessus Vulnerability management, Microsoft XDR and others as appropriate.
  • Understand and leverage BAE Systems experience, IP and expertise, with support of product and subject matter experts, to deliver secure solutions.

Core Duties:

  • Solution architecture and design of security aspects of Security Operations Centre solutions to meet specific customer requirements, across solution conceptualisation, architecture, design, build, deployment and operation covering Services, People, Policy and Processes, Technology and Physical Infrastructure layers.
  • Knowledge and experience of design, build and deployment of SOC technology including at least two of SIEM, SOAR, EDR, Vulnerability Management, Threat Intelligence, to identify signs of an intrusion.
  • Engineering leadership and management for design, build, deployment and operation of Security Operations Centre solutions.
  • Good understanding of industry best practice in Security Operations for Services, People, Policy and Process, Technology and Physical layers.
  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals Understanding of common threats and mitigation techniques.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment and vulnerability management.
  • Knowledge of OnPrem architectures & design including: Security controls and detection tools, Networking and Secure network architectures.
  • Understanding of security best practices (least privilege, encryption).
  • Understanding how to design scalable and resilient architectures.
  • Able to define and/or understand requirements that may not have been seen before, and research and test potential solutions.
  • Recognised cybersecurity certification e.g. CISSP.
  • Familiarity with architectural frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Zachmann) and modelling.
  • Good knowledge and experience of common Enterprise ICT services.
  • Experience working with Government systems and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working across a variety of delivery styles e.g. agile, lean, iterative/incremental, waterfall.
  • Experienced leading small engineering and client-side consultancy teams.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and lead projects.
  • Team player and adept at working in multi-disciplinary and diverse teams.
  • Work as part of the team and pass design concepts to other team members.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to help support and mentor team.
  • Self-awareness and understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses.
