Salary Range:

  • Systems Engineer £38,000 - £48,000
  • Senior Systems Engineer £44,500 - £56,000
  • Principal Systems Engineer £53,500 - £68,000
  • Lead Systems Engineer £59,500 - £75,000

Where this vacancy is being recruited across more than one grade, the successful candidate will be appointed to a specific assessed grade, and the applicable salary range will be that associated with the grade of appointment.

Your Impact

Are you an experienced System Safety Engineer looking to apply your skills in a new and complex problem domain? We are recruiting for several system safety engineers who will work on real engineering problems, ensuring our products are safe and comply with regulatory standards, whilst championing a safety culture in our projects.

What you will do as a System Safety Engineer:

  • Use safety analysis skills across the full system lifecycle: from requirements analysis (including bids and contracting); to system integration, acceptance testing, delivery and in-service support.
  • Identify hazards and investigate these using functional failure analyses and other techniques, identifying the necessary mitigations to reduce safety risks, and taking part in design trade-offs to implement them.
  • Evidencing your decisions using the data available to you, through fault tree analysis, scenario analysis, and various other techniques.
  • Contribute to continual improvement of the Company Product Safety and Environmental Impact Management System.

Your work could contribute to:

  • Radar systems for fighter jets like the Typhoon and SAAB Gripen
  • GCAP Future Generation Radar & Electro-Optical Targeting products
  • Infra-Red Counter Measures (IRCM) systems
  • Laser target designators and ranging systems
  • Surveillance AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radars

What you will bring:

  • Experience of safety analysis of complex systems in a safety-critical industry.
  • Experience across a number of engineering lifecycle phases.
  • Experience of generating safety engineering artefacts e.g. system safety assessment, hazard log, fault trees, risk assessments etc.
  • Ability to work with different engineering disciplines, e.g. software, electronics, mechanical.
  • An interest in new and emerging technologies and safety analysis techniques.
