Location: Great Baddow (Essex). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements; however, for this role, you will be expected to attend your site 3-5 days per week.

Role description: You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of Data science research topics for customers across the defence, security and commercial sectors. The Data Applied Research group has a diverse range of teams working in reinforcement learning, natural language processing, knowledge graphs and graph-based neural nets, AI for RF and EW, sonar and acoustics. You will undertake novel research in given topic areas, often in partnership with leading universities, develop prototypes and proof of concept demonstrators, and prepare technical reports and proposals.

Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
Qualification requirements: As a minimum requirement, you'll need to have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2:2 in your undergraduate degree in a relevant STEM subject such as Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Electronic/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering and Physics. An AI-related Master's degree will also be beneficial for future Graduate roles. You will need to demonstrate an active interest in Applied AI research.
Start date: 21st June 2027. Length of contract: 12 weeks.
