A great first step into publishing, helping independent publishers get their books into shops and online. Inpress is an agency that helps independent book publishers sell their books. We work with some of the UK's most exciting small publishers and help get their titles into bookshops, online retailers, and readers' hands. We're a small, friendly team of nine, funded by Arts Council England, and we've been growing steadily year on year.
We're looking for an organised, enthusiastic assistant to support our sales and marketing team. This is a hands‑on role that touches a lot of different things, from keeping our data tidy to helping manage our website and social media, to making sure booksellers have what they need to stock our publishers' titles. You don't need to have worked in publishing before. If you love books, are comfortable with spreadsheets and take pride in getting the details right, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
- Keeping our book and sales data accurate and up to date across various systems and retail platforms
- Uploading new titles to our website each month and keeping the content fresh
- Processing website orders and responding to customer queries
- Preparing materials for our sales team, such as information packs and spreadsheets
- Helping manage the distribution of advance copies to booksellers
- Contributing to our social media channels
- Supporting events and book fairs
- Taking notes in team meetings and circulating action points
- Handling general admin, emails, and enquiries
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Strong attention to detail and good at staying organised
- A self‑starter who can manage their own workload and ask for help when needed
- Friendly and confident communicating with people by email, phone, or in person
- A genuine interest in books and/or the arts
Nice to Have:
- Some experience with design tools like Canva, Photoshop, or InDesign
- Experience updating a website
- Experience working with databases or data systems
A Note on Experience
We know publishing can feel like a hard industry to break into. This role is deliberately designed as an entry point and full training will be provided on all the systems and processes you'll use. What matters most is that you're reliable, curious, and care about doing good work. We are committed to supporting diversity in our workforce and ensuring an inclusive environment where all individuals can succeed. We encourage applications from all and seek to employ a workforce representative of the publishers and markets that we serve.
