Help shape the digital presence of BBC podcasts through social media content, audience engagement and creative campaigns. BBC Studios Audio is an end-to-end podcast studio growing monetised networks of premium audio and audio-visual content aligned with the BBC’s values and reputation. We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Digital Content Executive to our team. The successful applicant will deliver a range of shortform and social media content, supporting podcast, social marketing and commercial teams to deliver powerful digital content across a wide portfolio of output, for publication on partner and owned platforms.

This is an important new digital role within BBC Studios Audio, working closely with production teams who deliver a uniquely wide range of outstanding content: ambitious new podcasts such as The History of the United States in 100 Objects, The Interface and Big Lives; impactful investigative serials such as The History Bureau, Stalked and Things Fell Apart; long-running prestige BBC Radio 4 series such as Desert Island Discs, You’re Dead To Me and In Our Time; and an extensive slate of award-winning comedy and fiction output.

Your key responsibilities and impact:

  • Work with Digital Lead and podcast production teams to provide creative planning and idea generation for digital editorial content and advertising campaigns, in line with the editorial strategy set by the relevant Creative Director.
  • Produce effective digital assets that can be used across social media and streaming platforms, using tools including Adobe suite, Elevenlabs, social media scheduling software and social platforms.
  • Optimise digital assets for social, including editing aspect ratio and dimensions, adding captions, transitions, motion graphics, etc., in line with the account’s approved style guide and tone of voice.
  • Deploy AI tools to improve creative output and efficiency, within BBC Studios’ AI use policies.
  • Monitor external trends and developments in digital and social media, staying abreast of competitor activity and feeding in ideas for innovation and continued best practice via regular reporting.
  • Support the Digital Lead and production team in managing owned social accounts and editorial plans, including creating/curating and scheduling and targeting content to support our overarching strategic priorities and meet audience/user need.
  • Generate, create and own conversations on social media accounts in line with the agreed social media strategy.
  • Work with moderation services, editorial policy and other support teams to develop appropriate responses to editorially sensitive comments and escalate issues to the Creative Director and other senior stakeholders as required.
  • Engage with talent, influencers and brands to drive social engagement.
  • Work with relevant insights and social media measurement teams to agree tracking and evaluation metrics to monitor performance; evaluate audience behaviour to inform future planning, strategy development and activity.
  • Coordinate information and reports on a regular basis as required by podcast producers and senior stakeholders, using social listening/measurement/insight tools and dashboards.
  • Ensure all social activity is correctly complied (following BBC brand guidelines) and is in line with BBC editorial guidelines.
  • Escalate compliance to appropriate roles across social, marketing, advertising standards, content, production, editorial policy and other relevant support roles where relevant.
  • As agreed with the Production Team and within contractual weekly hours, work out-of-hours shifts (evenings and weekends) to ensure digital activity supports content priorities.

Your skills and experience:

  • A record of working with digital content, developing and delivering social media strategies, creating content and managing communities and using analytics to drive decision making.
  • Demonstrable experience of hands-on production of social-first video, including setting up shoots filming, editing, adding graphics and effects, and publishing content using relevant audio/video publishing tools, native social platform tools with strong competence in Photoshop and the Adobe suite.
  • Experience in creating and posting content on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube.
  • A passion for podcasting and an understanding of production and distribution processes.
  • Attention to detail, with good editorial judgment, accuracy and sensitivity.
  • An established networker in the digital content space who is able to engage and influence creative individuals.
  • Good planning and organisational skills able to work across multiple projects, reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to make the most efficient use of resources and operate within financial and other constraints.
  • Ability to understand audience need and behaviour across platforms/devices/content and translate this into clear analysis and strong strategic thinking.
