Who Are We?

At Habitat Works, we are more than just an ecological consultancy. As both a consultancy and environmental contracting company, we deliver a diverse and rewarding range of projects for clients nationwide. Our services include ecological and botanical surveys, planning support, Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), protected species surveys, wildlife licensing, and mitigation works. In addition to consultancy, our in-house environmental contracting team delivers a broad range of habitat management and creation projects.

About the Role…

Habitat Works Ltd is entering an exciting period of growth. Having recently moved into larger offices and expanded our team, we are looking for a number of individuals to support us on environmental contracting projects this winter. Current projects include large scale woodland creation across Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

The Seasonal Contracts Assistant role is being offered on a casual basis until early April 2026, with full-time hours available for the right candidates. We then expect to be able to offer one or more permanent positions to casual staff in April 2026, subject to individual performance and business growth.

Ideally, we are looking for individuals that can commit to a minimum of 2 full days per week until early April 2026. Due to the nature of the projects, working hours will be approximately 8-10 hours per day (exclusive of lunch break), Mon-Fri. Transport will be provided where needed as we often head out as a team from Sheffield or our office base.

Some of our work takes place in remote and extreme working conditions. Terrain is usually very rough, variable and uneven, and on very steep ground. Works will continue through demanding and difficult weather conditions. Applicants will need a good level of fitness and experience working in a demanding outdoor environment.

This position is a zero-hours contract of employment which means that whilst we will try to provide as much notice as possible when offering work, there is no obligation to offer a minimum number of hours or for the postholder to accept any work so offered. The number of hours offered will vary depending on business needs.

What We're Looking For:

  • At least one years' experience working in conservation, land management, forestry or landscaping
  • Practical knowledge of and certificates/competencies in one or more land management disciplines e.g. brush-cutter, chainsaw, 4x4, ATV, etc.
  • Experience working to method statements, risk assessments, and health & safety guidance
  • Experience using and maintaining a range of hand tools and power tools
  • A good level of physical fitness and comfortable with manual outdoor work
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a small team
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic with an ability to enthuse and motivate others
  • Ability to deal with enquiries from the public in a polite and professional manner
  • An interest in conservation, environmental management and ecology
  • Driving Licence (desirable)
  • First Aid qualification (desirable)
