Habitat for Humanity Great Britain (Habitat GB) is part of the global Habitat for Humanity Federation fighting global poverty and homelessness. In support of our mission, Habitat GB has introduced a new home improvement retail store to Great Britain called Habitat ReStore, which sells donated home furnishings, appliances, and renovation materials.
About the Role
Our Assistant Managers (ASMs) play a vital role in supporting Habitat GB's management team with the day-to-day running and overall success of our shops. Acting as a key link between staff, volunteers, and management, ASMs help ensure the store operates efficiently, delivers excellent customer service, and meets sales and operational targets. This is a hands-on role that involves overseeing shop floor activity, supporting and motivating volunteers and staff, maintaining high standards of merchandising and presentation, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for customers and donors.
Key tasks:
- Opening, closing and managing the shop, including setting up the till and cashing up at the end of the day.
- Conducting a shop floor walk and health & safety compliance checks.
- Checking shop emails and cascading key messages to the team.
- Securing the shop and ensuring housekeeping and cleaning is completed.
- Working with Habitat GB and ReStores management team to meet sales targets.
- Ensuring the optimum price point for all stock items and promotional merchandise.
- Following all company policies, shop standards and operating procedures.
- Preparing and completing shop administration, including cash handling and banking functions.
- Performing management till functions such as refunds.
- Providing direction and support to shop volunteers.
- Ensuring all Security, Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Supporting Habitat GB's management team with the recruitment of shop volunteers.
- Maintaining the highest standards of shop merchandising and visual layout.
- Ensuring maximum stock availability through effective stock control and shop replenishment.
- Actively promoting Gift Aid to maximise contributions from donations.
- Answering the shop telephone and taking messages from customers and internal teams.
- Ensuring excellent shop standards at the end of the trading day.
- Managing, posting, and updating our retail eCommerce platforms.

- Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 30 pounds) and walk, stand, sit, and stair climb on a frequent basis.
