Our rapidly growing team of 100+ people in Austin, TX, Oxford, UK, and Melbourne, Australia brings together exceptionally talented and passionate people in the domains of energy trading, data science, software engineering and renewable energy management. We have a vacancy for a UK Trader to join our UK Trading Team based in Oxford. This role will play a critical role in driving the success of our battery storage trading operations across wholesale markets, BM, and ancillary service markets. You will manage the trading and optimisation of the existing UK Habitat asset portfolio working as part of a 24/7 shift trading team based on-site in our Oxford office.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Trading, optimisation and dispatch including AS bidding
  • Optimising physical and financial trading positions within day-ahead and intraday power markets with a key focus on battery storage asset optimisation
  • Undertake fundamental market analysis to make profitable trading decisions, and conduct competitor analysis to develop market leading optimisation strategies
  • Support tool/product development in order to assist with our objective of developing a fully automated optimisation and trading platform
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including risk management, data science, software, analysis and operations to develop and refine trading strategies
  • Ensure all trade execution and trading strategy is compliant with relevant industry regulation
  • Coordinate with Scheduling & Operations team to ensure traded volume and procured contracts optimally reflect asset availability

Required skills and experience:

  • Expert understanding of electricity markets in Great Britain, including wholesale, BM, and ancillary services
  • 2+ years experience in a short-term power trading role managing dispatch of physical assets and executing trading strategies
  • A track record of delivering successful trading strategies and consistent performance
  • In-depth knowledge of the drivers of spot power prices
  • A positive ‘can-do’ attitude and good judgement in high pressure, high value situations
  • Adaptability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced trading environment
  • Curiosity and an entrepreneurial approach to strategy development

‘Nice to have’ skills and experience:

  • Working knowledge of Excel. VBA or python coding skills are desirable
  • Awareness of battery storage technology, including operational characteristics and revenue opportunities
  • A passion for energy markets and renewable energy solutions
