Habs Girls is seeking an outstanding School Counsellor to join our pastoral team and provide a professional, confidential counselling service that supports the wellbeing of pupils, parents and staff. Working closely with the Deputy Head Pastoral, the successful candidate will contribute to a positive, caring and inclusive culture while delivering high-quality therapeutic support and promoting mental health across the school.,

  • Providing confidential, ethical counselling to pupils and, where appropriate, parents.
  • Assessing and managing risk, escalating safeguarding concerns in line with school policy and national guidance.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to safeguarding processes.
  • Managing a varied caseload and coordinating support with pastoral colleagues and external agencies where appropriate.
  • Promoting positive mental health through workshops, assemblies and targeted interventions.
  • Contributing to wellbeing initiatives, pastoral strategy and staff training.
  • Building strong relationships with pupils and acting as an advocate for their emotional and psychological wellbeing.
  • Participating in regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development.
  • Attending and contributing to pastoral meetings, strategic planning and relevant school events.

    Is a skilled and compassionate counselling professional with a commitment to supporting young people's wellbeing.

  • You will combine excellent therapeutic practice with sound professional judgement, emotional resilience and the ability to work collaboratively within a busy school environment.

Essential

  • Recognised Counselling or Psychotherapy qualification and membership/registration with a professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP).
  • Experience working therapeutically with children or young people.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage sensitive situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.

Desirable

  • Experience within an educational setting.
  • Training in relevant therapeutic approaches, such as CBT or trauma-informed practice.
  • Experience delivering wellbeing sessions to groups or parents.
