Habs Girls School is seeking a creative, enthusiastic and organised Library Assistant to support the Senior Librarian in developing and promoting our vibrant school libraries.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about books, reading and working with young people, and who brings the creativity and marketing flair needed to inspire a love of reading across the school community. We are looking for an individual who can help ensure our libraries are not only excellent learning environments, but also dynamic, engaging spaces that capture students’ imagination and encourage lifelong reading habits.

Working closely with the Senior Librarian, you will support the day‑to‑day running of the libraries while taking an active role in promoting library resources, reading initiatives and events to students and staff.

You will help create an exciting and welcoming library experience through imaginative displays, engaging communications and innovative activities that encourage students to discover new books, authors and resources.

Key responsibilities will include:

Promoting Reading and Library Engagement

  • Creating eye‑catching displays and promotional materials that showcase books, authors and library resources
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of reading initiatives, competitions and themed events throughout the year
  • Assisting with author visits, World Book Day celebrations and other library activities
  • Producing engaging communications and content to promote library services and encourage reading for pleasure
  • Identifying creative ways to increase student engagement with the library and its resources
  • Keeping abreast of new children's and young adult literature and recommending titles that will appeal to students

Library Operations

  • Issuing, returning, shelving and maintaining library resources
  • Cataloguing new stock and assisting with stock management, weeding and recycling
  • Supporting students and staff in locating and using library resources effectively
  • Supervising students and maintaining a welcoming and productive study environment
  • Assisting with the organisation and development of library collections
  • Liaising with teaching staff and suppliers to support resource provision

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine passion for books, reading and children's literature
  • Enjoys working with young people and supporting their learning and development
  • Brings creativity, initiative and strong promotional skills to engage students with reading and library services
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is confident using IT systems, including Microsoft Office and databases
  • Is highly organised, detail‑oriented and able to manage competing priorities
  • Is approachable, professional and collaborative in their approach
  • Is flexible, enthusiastic and keen to contribute to the wider life of the school

Hours: This is a term‑time only position working 19 hours per week. Working hours can be arranged flexibly within the school day (8.15am–5.15pm), although occasional flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the school.

Please note that the school site is not served by public transport and applicants will therefore need access to their own transport.
