Every school day begins and ends with hundreds of students arriving safely on our campus. Behind every successful journey is a well‑organised transport service, and we're looking for a proactive, organised and customer‑focused Transport Officer to help ensure it runs seamlessly. At Haberdashers' Elstree Schools, our transport network plays a vital role in school life, connecting students and families across London and the surrounding counties. This is a varied, hands‑on role that combines operational coordination, administration and customer service, with plenty of time spent out at the coach park supporting students, drivers and colleagues. If you enjoy working in a busy environment where no two days are the same, thrive on solving problems, and take pride in delivering an excellent service, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

As Transport Officer, you'll coordinate the day‑to‑day operation of our transport service, ensuring the safe and efficient running of the coach park while supporting the wider administration of transport across the Schools. Working closely with our Transport Coordinator and external transport providers, you'll be a visible presence during key operational periods, helping students, liaising with drivers, resolving day‑to‑day issues and ensuring everything runs safely and efficiently. Alongside the operational aspects of the role, you'll maintain transport records, support compliance activities, coordinate coach bookings and help ensure our transport systems remain organised and effective. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing practical operational work with administration and stakeholder communication.

What you’ll be doing

  • Coordinating the safe day‑to‑day operation of the school's coach park.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for students, parents, drivers and colleagues.
  • Supporting the delivery of a reliable, high‑quality transport service.
  • Coordinating transport administration, records and reporting.
  • Liaising with our external transport provider and coach operators on day‑to‑day operational matters.
  • Supporting safeguarding and compliance requirements across transport operations.
  • Coordinating coach bookings for educational visits and school activities.
  • Monitoring transport records, invoices and operational information.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Schools to support transport arrangements.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Calm and confident in a busy operational environment.
  • An excellent communicator who enjoys working with a wide range of people.
  • Comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with a visible operational presence.
  • Proactive, approachable and solutions‑focused.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and learning new systems.

Previous experience in transport, logistics, facilities, operations or administration would be advantageous, although we're equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong organisational skills, excellent customer service and the ability to coordinate multiple priorities.

What we offer:

  • A competitive salary, commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
  • The opportunity to work in a vibrant, ambitious, and supportive school community alongside exceptional colleagues who are deeply committed to excellence and to one another.
  • Generous private pension scheme through Aegon with substantial employer contributions.
  • Life assurance and income protection cover, providing financial security and support should you be unable to work due to long‑term illness.
  • Access to the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), offering confidential support, guidance, and advice.
  • Extensive professional development and training opportunities within a culture that values growth and continuous learning.
  • Free lunch and refreshments during the working day.
  • Free onsite parking and access to the Schools’ extensive coach network.
  • Free access to excellent sports facilities, including the gym, swimming pool, and fitness classes.
  • Wellbeing initiatives and programmes, including yoga, mindfulness sessions, and health checks.
  • Access to an online GP service, providing quick and convenient healthcare advice.
  • Access to Vivup, the staff benefits platform offering discounts, financial advice, and wellbeing resources.
  • Cycle‑to‑Work Scheme and sustainable travel initiatives, including Octopus Electric Vehicles.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible. Haberdashers’ Elstree Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced check. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
