Haberdashers' Adams is a selective state grammar school with academy status situated in the small market town of Newport in rural Shropshire. It is a co-educational school from September 2024, taking approximately 30 girls into year 7. There are five forms of entry and currently about 1050 pupils on roll; approximately 100 of these are boarders. The Sixth Form has about 370 students of whom about 120 are girls.
Our Computing department is a dynamic and successful part of the school, delivering excellent results at both GCSE and A-Level Computer Science. We have very healthy GCSE numbers and an excellent uptake at A-Level, with superb outcomes for both, with continued improvement year-on-year; in % of GCSE grades were 9–7 and at A-level 60% of grades were A.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Computing department, building on the excellent work of the previous Head of Department.
- Shape the subject’s future within the school and drive a new phase of growth.
- Implement Computing at Key Stage 3 to give younger students the opportunity to develop essential digital skills and foster early interest in the subject.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and outcomes across GCSE and A-Level Computer Science.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Visionary curriculum leadership with a track record of improving subject outcomes in Computing or a related field.
- Ability to lead a team, develop a robust departmental strategy, and respond to changing curricular needs.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, with appropriate experience and clearances in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidelines.
- Willingness to contribute to school-wide priorities and engage in the wider school community.
