2025 sees MoneyGram Haas F1 Team celebrate its tenth season in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship… we’re just getting started. We don’t follow the status quo, we’re here to challenge the competition, and we want you to join us.

The first American Formula 1 team to compete in the sport since 1986, MoneyGram Haas F1 Team made an immediate impression with a memorable points-scoring debut at the 2016 Australian Grand Prix. Nine years later, and the team continues to demonstrate growth and a clear direction with its future objectives – coming off the back of its second-best season to-date in Formula 1.

We’re a racing team – not a corporate machine. We have three HQs – Kannapolis in the US, Banbury in the UK and Maranello in Italy – each powered by passionate, loyal and hardworking team ambassadors. General Summary:

This position reports to the Simulator Development Team Leader and is located in Banbury (UK). Responsible for the implementation of our vehicle model onto a DIL simulator for the Formula One team, this position is heavily involved with the development of simulator specific software, involving Haas in-house developed symbolic language and will work closely with internal specialist teams and technology partners collaborate to enhance vehicle performance through data-driven analysis, simulation, and engineering innovation.

General Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel, departments and technology partners.
  • Assume any responsibilities and duties delegated by the Simulator Development Team Leader or their designee.
  • Work to a consistently high standard in time sensitive situations.
  • Adhere to all engineering and wider business processes.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Simulator Development Team Leader or their designee.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and run simulator sessions for race drivers, test drivers and performance systems engineers.
  • Day-to-day maintenance & servicing of the simulation platform & facility.
  • Monitor real-time data and ensure accurate simulation of vehicle dynamics and track conditions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during sessions.
  • Continuous development of the simulation software environment to improve operational procedures and vehicle correlation.
  • Integration of vehicle models for real-time running in the simulator.
  • Define and develop the necessary modifications to allow a simulator implementation of the Haas vehicle model (chassis, tyre and powertrain).
  • Adopt the in-house developed symbolic language for any modelling work.
  • Ensure the correct functionality of models I/Os and their interaction with the DIL hardware platform.
  • Develop an off-line real-time environment to test the whole vehicle model or some of its subsystems.
  • Helping to solve numerical or stability issues when the model is running in the real-time environment in the early stages.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Minimum BSc in any STEM subject but preferably qualified to postgraduate level with substantial experience in applied mathematics or engineering activities.
  • Previous experience in a DIL simulator hardware/software environment in a development capacity within a motorsport, high-level automotive or aerospace environment.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • Modelling mechanical/hydraulic/thermal/electrical systems for dynamic simulations in a suitable programming language.
  • Expert in at least 2 of the following languages: C++, Python, MATLAB, Modelica, C#.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop and real time systems experience (E.g. Concurrent, dSPACE or Speed Goat).
  • A practical, pragmatic engineer, with strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to plan and organize project activities with other team members to meet a deadline.
  • A can-do positive approach and a willingness to help others including mentoring junior members of the group.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of race engineering workflows and performance analysis.
  • Motion cueing and vestibular system modelling knowledge.
  • Knowledge of integration of SECU code for DIL applications.
  • Graphics rendering experience with rFpro.

Equipment and Applications:

  • Computing languages: C++, Python, MATLAB and/or Modelica based programs.
  • Programming for Windows and Linux (Ubuntu / RedHawk).
  • Visual Studio, Source Control (Git), Azure DevOps.
  • Microsoft Office products.
  • High-level knowledge of an object-oriented simulation code base, such as C# or C/C++.

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require occasional domestic & international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
