TGR Haas F1 Team competes in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship with Grand Prix race winner Esteban Ocon and British rising star Ollie Bearman, led by Team Principal Ayao Komatsu. The season saw the team's second highest points total in its 10-season history, achieving a combined total of 20 top 10 finishes. We don't follow the status quo, we're here to challenge the competition, and we want you to join us. Nine years later, and the team continues to demonstrate growth and a clear direction with its future objectives – coming off the back of its second-best season to-date in Formula 1. General Summary: This position reports to the Head of Controls and Systems or their designee; is located in Banbury, UK. When trackside this role reports to the Heritage Lead Mechanic. This role is multidisciplined, responsible for the installation of Electronics/Systems components, along with configuration of data logging/telemetry and Standard ECU (SECU) systems within Testing Previous Car (TPC), Testing Mule Car (TMC) or running show car. Plays an active role in fault investigations and resolutions. Involved in the set-up and pack-up of all equipment before and after an event. Factory tasks will include the preparation of electronic parts for the next event as well as the service, maintenance and fault management of sensors, harnesses, and garage electrical equipment, alongside supporting Systems activities in the factory when necessary. Expected to attend all Heritage Car associated events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Responsible for the electrical build and disassembly of the chassis prior and post event.
  • This will include the fitment of all electrical hardware from installing harnesses, fitting sensors, termination of parts on-car, as well as the mechanical installation of any other piece of electronic equipment.
  • Have an excellent understanding of Data Acquisition Systems and able to use System Monitor to set up all on car systems associated with the SECU.
  • Use Atlas and System Monitor to ensure electronic boxes, networks and sensors are set up and operating correctly and within their limits prior to and during sessions.
  • Configure ATLAS Data Server (ADS) and work alongside ATLAS clients to ensure telemetry and offloaded data is working correctly.
  • Support current car Race Team when required.
  • The manufacture of small to medium harnesses, sensor termination and test box and leads.
  • Working closely with car crew pre, during and post event ensuring electronic parts are delivered to the chassis and installed correctly and safely, maintained during the event and removed correctly and made ready for reuse.
  • In addition to the standard electronic tasks, being part of a car crew will also be required to carry out other activities (not necessarily electronics/systems orientated) which are part of the Heritage Systems Engineer role.
  • These duties include fitting the ES battery, fitting of the floor with other car crew members and T-Tray testing.
  • Play an active role in electronic fault investigations, permanent rectifications and temporary solutions always maintaining reliability.
  • Work closely with the Trackside Faults team ensuring faults are reported correctly with immediate solutions and permanent fix recommendations.
  • Have an understanding of the high and low voltage electrical design and are capable of navigating through the electrical system components using drawings to confidently investigate issues and install components correctly.
  • Support off-car electrical infrastructure/equipment such as tyre blankets and starter packs.
  • Using the component Lifing System to manage all electrical parts.
  • This will require constant monitoring to ensure all component lifing transactions are carried out correctly maintaining complete component lifing and servicing integrity.
  • This will also include the stock management of all electrical components, consumables, test equipment and tooling.
  • Maintaining current stock of on car parts and highlighting any shortages.
  • The role includes the pre & post event set-up and pack up of electrical and general garage and office equipment.
  • Help to promote a good safe working environment both at the track and in the factory workshop, ensuring components, tooling and equipment are in good working order and stored correctly.
  • Follow health & safety regulations at all venues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Heritage Lead Mechanic, Head of Controls and Systems or their designee.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Previous experience in Formula 1 in a Systems Engineering capacity or similar essential.
  • Previous experience of motorsport wiring manufacture, repair and installation essential.
  • GCSE, High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Further education including Electrical/Electronics training to HNC level or equivalent proven experience.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Strong technical background in racing car electrical and electronic systems.
  • Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
  • Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in a scientific and analytical way.
  • Work well in a team environment with personnel at all levels.
  • A sympathetic approach to your work colleagues and an ability to integrate within a group environment.
  • A can-do positive approach and a willingness to help others is essential.

Equipment and Applications:

  • Handling and management of systems and components containing Hazardous Voltages.
  • Use of electrical/electronic test equipment and hand tools.
  • Soldering equipment use.
  • Harness build tooling, including wire strippers, crimp tools and contact retention test tools.
  • Factory harness testing equipment such as Cirris or other automated harness testers.
  • Computer literate covering MS Office, Dynamics 365, Lifing software, and McLaren Applied tools such as System Monitor and ATLAS.

Work Environment Physical Demands:

  • An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential.
  • The role may require extensive domestic & international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.
  • This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity.
  • Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands.
  • Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids.
