We are currently seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a major contractor delivering a significant substation infrastructure project in South East England. This is an excellent opportunity to support the commercial delivery of a nationally important energy project, working across a range of civil engineering and high-voltage electrical works. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring robust commercial management throughout the construction phase, supporting project delivery from procurement through to final account.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of civil engineering and electrical/HV work packages.
- Administer subcontractor accounts, including valuations, payments, variations, and final accounts.
- Prepare and review applications for payment and commercial submissions.
- Support change management processes, including the assessment and valuation of compensation events and variations.
- Monitor project costs, forecasts, budgets, and cash flow performance.
- Produce accurate commercial reporting, including cost value reconciliations (CVRs) and monthly forecasts.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Support procurement activities, including tender reviews, subcontract package evaluations, and contract awards.
- Work closely with project management, engineering, procurement, and site teams to ensure effective commercial control.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and ensure contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within power, utilities, infrastructure, civil engineering, or major construction projects.
- Strong experience managing both civil engineering and electrical/HV work scopes.
- Good working knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial administration.
- Experience managing subcontractor accounts from procurement through to final account settlement.
- Strong commercial reporting, cost control, and forecasting capabilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently within a project environment.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience on substation, transmission, distribution, energy, or utility infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of high-voltage electrical installations and associated construction activities.
- Experience working for Tier 1 contractors or major infrastructure delivery organisations.
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
- Membership of a recognised professional institution such as RICS or CIOB.
