Planning Manager – (T&D) Projects Location: Midlands Contract Type: Contract (Outside IR35) Sector: Power/Transmission Overview H9 Talent Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a client for a Planning Manager to lead the planning function on major electric transmission projects across the UK. This is a senior leadership role, responsible for driving the development, implementation, and performance of project planning systems, ensuring programmes are delivered in line with industry standards, client expectations, and NEC contract requirements. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction to the planning team, ensuring resources, processes, and reporting systems are in place to deliver effective project support. Manage the creation, submission, and acceptance of project programmes in line with NEC contracts, client specifications, and best practice standards. Drive programme management activities including critical path method (CPM) scheduling, time impact analysis, and change management. Collaborate with commercial and project teams (Estimating, QS, Document Control) to support cost management, forecasting, and governance. Facilitate and lead collaborative planning workshops with internal teams, clients, and contractors. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders to support delivery and develop further business opportunities. Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of planning staff, ensuring high performance and retention. Conduct performance reviews, mentor and coach team members, and instil a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and organisational policies across all planning activities. Support forensic scheduling and programme updates as required. Provide strategic planning guidance to senior management in alignment with project and company objectives. Qualifications & Experience Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience). Minimum of 5 years’ project planning experience, ideally in large-scale infrastructure or power projects. Previous leadership or management experience within a planning function. Expert user of Primavera P6. Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, with experience managing programmes under these frameworks. Experience with forensic scheduling and time impact analysis (preferred). Background in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) environments – experience in electrical transmission/substation projects advantageous
