An established and growing engineering business within the energy and power generation sector is looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer to support the delivery of complex energy projects across the UK and internationally.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a technically driven organisation delivering innovative low-carbon energy solutions including CHP, trigeneration and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The Role
Working within the Design Engineering team, you will take responsibility for leading mechanical design activities across a range of energy projects from concept through to commissioning support. You will be involved in producing full mechanical design packages and supporting projects throughout the full lifecycle, collaborating closely with Projects, Sales and Electrical Design teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce mechanical design documentation including: PFDs, P&IDs, Functional Design Specifications, Technical Specifications, Equipment Schedules, General Arrangements & Detail Drawings
- Lead and coordinate CAD design activities
- Design systems including: Heat recovery, Hot & chilled water systems, Steam systems, Ventilation & noise attenuation, Heat rejection systems
- Carry out technical calculations and safety assessments
- Pipe and pump sizing calculations
- Support material and equipment selection
- Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL and risk assessment studies
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and testing
- Conduct site surveys and technical inspections
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors and internal stakeholders
Requirements
- HNC/HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within energy, power generation or industrial process environments
- Strong background in mechanical/process plant design
- Experience with pipework, ventilation and ancillary plant systems
- Knowledge of CDM and Health & Safety requirements
- AutoCAD 3D experience (or equivalent)
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Experience
Experience within any of the following would be highly advantageous: CHP / Power Generation, BESS, Steam systems, Cooling plant, Refrigeration / absorption chilling, Water treatment, Industrial gases, Waste-to-energy environments, Revit or Inventor software.
