Mechanical Commissioning Engineer – Energy from Waste

H9 Talent Solutions are currently supporting a major Energy from Waste (EfW) project in the North West and are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to support the project through mechanical completion, pre-commissioning and commissioning.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commissioning professional with a strong background in EfW, power generation, process plant or heavy industrial projects.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead and support mechanical commissioning activities from mechanical completion through to operational handover.
- Review system boundaries, commissioning documentation, P&IDs, drawings and equipment documentation.
- Carry out and manage system walkdowns, inspections, punch-listing and mechanical completion activities.
- Support pre-commissioning, flushing, cleaning, pressure testing and functional testing of mechanical systems.
- Commission boilers, steam systems, pumps, valves, rotating equipment and Balance of Plant (BoP) systems.
- Work closely with construction, commissioning, engineering, vendors and operations teams to resolve technical issues.
- Review and close out commissioning dossiers, test packs, check sheets and handover documentation.
- Support equipment start-up, performance testing and troubleshooting.
- Identify commissioning issues and develop practical solutions to ensure programme milestones are achieved.
- Ensure all commissioning activities are undertaken in accordance with site HSE requirements, permits, RAMS and safe systems of work.
- Provide regular progress updates and report commissioning status, constraints and outstanding works.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer on large-scale industrial or power projects.
- Previous experience within Energy from Waste, Waste-to-Energy, Biomass, Power Generation, Process Plant or similar environments.
- Strong understanding of mechanical completions, pre-commissioning and commissioning.
- Experience with boilers, steam systems, rotating equipment and Balance of Plant.
- Competent in interpreting P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment specifications and commissioning documentation.
- Experience undertaking system walkdowns, punch-listing and equipment testing.
- Strong understanding of mechanical safety, permits and commissioning procedures.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary commissioning team.
