H9 Talent Solutions are seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor to support delivery of a major energy infrastructure project based in Durham. This is a site-based contract role working within a multi-disciplinary construction environment, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, environmental compliance, and workforce engagement throughout project delivery.
The successful candidate will work closely with project management, construction teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to maintain a proactive safety culture and support safe execution of works across all project phases.
This role is offered on an Outside IR35 contract basis and is suited to an experienced HSE professional with a strong construction and energy-sector background.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day HSE support to site construction and project management teams.
- Promote and maintain a positive behavioural safety culture across the project.
- Conduct routine site inspections, audits, and workplace monitoring activities.
- Review and challenge Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Verify compliance with project procedures, client standards, and statutory requirements.
- Support permit-to-work systems and high-risk work activities.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with agreed HSE expectations.
- Carry out incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
- Lead and facilitate toolbox talks, safety briefings, and workforce engagement initiatives.
- Participate in daily coordination meetings, HSE meetings, and progress reviews.
- Support environmental controls and ensure compliance with environmental management requirements.
- Monitor lifting operations, temporary works, excavation activities, work at height, and plant operations.
- Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, inspections, and KPI data.
- Assist project leadership in achieving project safety objectives and client requirements.
- Support emergency preparedness and response arrangements.
- Promote continual improvement and implementation of lessons learned.
Skills & Experience
- NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum).
- Experience working as an HSE Advisor on energy, utilities, industrial, infrastructure, civil engineering, or major construction projects.
- Good understanding of:
- CDM Regulations 2015
- CSCS card (appropriate level).
- Full UK driving licence.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
- Grad IOSH / Tech IOSH / CMIOSH.
- Environmental qualification.
- Experience on renewable energy, power generation, battery storage, substations, HV infrastructure, or process plant projects.
