H&H is offering an exciting hybrid opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our London office in the vibrant London Bridge area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver the electrical design of heavy movable structures such as movable bridges, locks, dams, travellers, and roofs, including power distribution, lighting, and control systems for operation and safety.
  • Design, specify, and review control system architectures, including PLC-based systems, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, HMIs, and interfaces with mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Prepare, review, and approve electrical and control system calculations, control philosophies, I/O schedules, cause-and-effect matrices, specifications, drawings, and testing documentation in accordance with UK and international standards.
  • Support and oversee factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT), including review of test procedures, witnessing tests, and resolution of non-conformances.
  • Lead and support site commissioning activities, ensuring control systems operate safely, reliably, and in accordance with the design intent and operational requirements.
  • Provide technical input into the operation, maintenance, and fault-finding of control systems, including review of O&M manuals and support during the defects and handover period.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers and designers, including oversight of CAD production using Auto CAD, Micro Station, and 3D modelling software.
  • Coordinate closely with mechanical, structural, and civil disciplines to ensure fully integrated, operable, and maintainable designs.
  • Support the project team during tender and construction phases, including responding to technical queries and reviewing contractor submissions and temporary works interfaces.
  • Undertake site visits and field work to inspect electrical and control system installations, witness testing and commissioning activities, and support defect resolution.
  • Interface with clients, contractors, operators, and external stakeholders, providing clear technical input and representing H&H in a professional capacity.

Qualifications

  • 15 to 20 years of experience in a similar electrical engineering or control systems role.
  • Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ qualified in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 15 to 20 years of experience in electrical and control systems for heavy infrastructure, industrial machinery, movable bridges, locks, dams, ports, or transportation projects (preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and interest in power distribution, control systems, instrumentation, and lighting.
  • Proven experience in the design, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of PLC-based control systems and associated field devices.
  • Ability to develop and review control philosophies, I/O schedules, cause-and-effect diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with UK and international electrical standards and regulations (e. g. BS, EN, IEC, IET, Wiring Regulations).
  • Ability to carry out electrical and control system calculations, including load assessments, cable sizing, and protection coordination.
  • Previous experience supporting site installation, FAT/SAT, and commissioning activities in an operational or construction environment.

Strong theoretical electrical engineering knowledge and practical understanding of safety-critical systems and interlocks.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interface with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a small, multidisciplinary engineering team.

Competitive salary range of £100,000-£120,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
