The Senior Business Data Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation's data transformation journey and the development of a modern data platform. Working closely with business stakeholders, technology teams and operations specialists, the role will be responsible for gathering, analysing and documenting business data requirements for prioritised business use cases, ensuring the right data assets are identified, sourced and governed to deliver meaningful business outcomes.

The role will lead data discovery activities across multiple source systems, identifying critical data elements, data quality considerations and reporting requirements. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of insurance Broking and MGA operations, including core operational and customer data, and will help shape the organisation's data roadmap by informing which data sources should be ingested and prioritised within the emerging data platform.

The role will also be responsible for supporting the design and delivery of data reporting solutions, promoting effective data governance practices, and enabling data-driven decision making across the business.

Data Platform

  • Define and document business data requirements for prioritised use cases
  • Work with business and technology stakeholders to determine which priority data sources should be ingested
  • Conduct data discovery cataloguing, profiling and analysis across operational systems for the priority data use cases
  • Map data lineage and data flows from source systems through to reporting and analytical outputs
  • Document business definitions, critical data elements, and quality measures to support a common understanding of data across the organisation
  • Identify data quality issues and recommend remediation activities

Reporting & Analytics

  • Translate business requirements into reporting and/or dashboard specifications
  • Partner with IT, actuarial and business teams to design intuitive and impactful reporting and/or dashboards, these can be POC for validation

In addition, the jobholder may be required to perform other duties assigned by their Line Manager, as required by the needs of the business.

Knowledge and experience required

  • Proven experience as a Business Data Analyst, Data Analyst or Reporting Analyst within an insurance organisation
  • Demonstrable experience of gathering and documenting business data requirements
  • Experience performing data analysis, data mapping, data lineage/traceability activities
  • Strong understanding of insurance Broking/ MGA/ Underwriting and associated operational processes and systems which create business or operations datasets
  • Experience working with data governance frameworks, data quality management and data ownership principles
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Azure Data Services and Databricks
  • Experience with a BI visualisation tool
  • Comfortable with AI-assisted tools and effective prompting
  • Ability to engage effectively with both business and technical stakeholders
  • Experience supporting the implementation of a cloud-based or modern data platform
  • Salesforce platform knowledge, including understanding of Salesforce data structures and reporting capabilities
  • Experience supporting data transformation or enterprise data initiatives
