The opportunity to help develop and grow the outbound sales function within a well-respected manufacturer. An exciting new product development programme, alongside an established and loyal customer base. This isn’t a role where you maintain a neat little patch of accounts. It’s one where you get to build the sales function alongside the Head of Sales, and show what a business with a great reputation can do when someone goes out and actively sells for it.
Our client is an established UK manufacturer of technical products for industrial customers, in the UK and internationally. The business has traditionally grown through its reputation, repeat business and strong customer relationships. Now, it is investing in a more proactive approach to sales and business development. That means a huge amount of potential in existing accounts and in markets they’ve barely approached.
The timing is good. There’s a lot of new product development in the pipeline, so you’ll be taking new products to customers who already know and trust the business. You’ll be close to the people who make the products, and close to operations and customer service, so you’ll see an enquiry through from the first conversation to the order leaving the door. You don’t need to know the product range already. If you’re a commercially minded salesperson who likes learning technical products properly, you’ll be given the chance to become the person customers call when they need the right answer.
What you’ll be doing:
- Looking after and growing existing customer relationships, and proactively opening up new opportunities in the UK and overseas
- Promoting the established product range, responding to both technical and commercial questions
- Taking new products to existing customers as they launch, and identifying new applications and markets
- Preparing quotations, following up enquiries and handing orders over smoothly to operations and customer service
- Keeping the CRM up to date and building an accurate, qualified pipeline, with regular forecasts and performance updates against revenue and margin targets
- Keeping an eye on competitors, pricing and market developments, and feeding what you learn back into product and commercial decisions
The Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have most of the following:
- Around 3-5 years’ sales experience, or a graduate with 1-3 years of commercial experience
- Strong communication skills and a natural commercial instinct
- A self-starter who is comfortable creating opportunities rather than waiting for enquiries
- A genuine appetite to learn technical products in depth
- Organised and disciplined with CRM, pipeline and forecasting
- Willing to travel across the UK, with occasional visits to customers and distributors in Europe
