We are recruiting for an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join a well-established manufacturing business based north of Goole. This is a key role for someone who wants genuine ownership of the Health and Safety function on site. You will be the main point of contact for H&S, helping to strengthen compliance, improve standards and build a positive safety culture across the operation.
The role would suit someone who enjoys being visible on the shop floor, working closely with managers and employees, and making practical improvements that have a real impact.
The Role
As Health and Safety Officer, you will lead the day-to-day Health and Safety function across the site, ensuring safe systems of work are in place, understood and continuously improved. You will support senior leaders, line managers and operational teams with clear, practical advice while ensuring the business remains compliant with current legislation and internal standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical H&S guidance to senior leaders, line managers and employees
- Support HR and Technical teams with safety requirements for internal and external audits
- Develop, implement and maintain Health and Safety plans in line with current legislation
- Create, review and update H&S policies, procedures and safe systems of work
- Carry out site inspections and ensure corrective actions are completed
- Ensure statutory inspections are completed, including FLT, lifting equipment, fire systems and racking
- Lead accident, incident and near-miss investigations
- Deliver H&S training, inductions and toolbox talks
- Promote near-miss reporting and maintain action logs
- Maintain COSHH data and safe operating procedures
- Develop emergency procedures and maintain fire safety records
- Chair monthly H&S meetings and monitor Health and Safety KPIs
- Drive continuous improvement across site safety standards
The Candidate
We are looking for someone with previous Health and Safety experience within a manufacturing, production or site-based environment. You will need to be confident advising managers, engaging with employees and taking ownership of Health and Safety activity across the site.
The ideal candidate will have:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
- Previous Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing or site-based environment
- Strong understanding of H&S legislation and practical site compliance
- Confident communication skills across all levels
- A hands-on, visible and proactive approach
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and influence others
- Confidence delivering training, inductions and toolbox talks
- Experience with audits, inspections, accident investigations and corrective actions
Salary and Benefits
