System Engineer

System Engineer

Full-Time No working from home possible
H

H-Power is looking for a graduate or early-career Systems Engineer to join its growing five-person Systems Engineering team. This is an opportunity to build broad, practical systems experience while contributing to the development of hydrogen-generation and clean-power technologies.

You will work across the full product lifecycle and interact with teams throughout the business, including engineering, project planning, finance and customer-facing functions. The environment is dynamic and fast-moving, so the role will suit someone who is proactive, confident and motivated by the opportunity to make a visible contribution.

Your immediate focus will be requirements management and verification and validation (V&V), helping the team work through an important delivery backlog. As you develop, your remit will broaden across technical delivery and product engineering, giving you cradle-to-grave exposure to how H-Power's products are defined, delivered, documented and supported in the field.

What you'll be doing

  • Support the capture, review and management of stakeholder, system and subsystem requirements.
  • Maintain clear traceability between requirements, system design and verification evidence.
  • Support V&V planning, evidence management and technical readiness activities.
  • Contribute to technical assessments, option evaluations and trade studies that support project decisions.
  • Help define system architectures, functional breakdowns, interfaces, states and modes.
  • Prepare and maintain specifications, reports, plans, interface documents and other technical deliverables.
  • Support product engineering across the full lifecycle, including customer-facing documentation and technical product information.
  • Work across multidisciplinary teams to understand technical issues, dependencies and system-level impacts.
  • Support product compliance, configuration management, change control and engineering governance.
  • Contribute to the continued development of H-Power's systems engineering processes, templates and ways of working.

What we're looking for

You do not need to arrive as a fully developed Systems Engineer. H-Power is prepared to provide training and upskilling, but you will need strong technical foundations, a structured approach and the drive to develop quickly.

  • A degree in systems, process, chemical or mechanical engineering, or a relevant scientific discipline such as chemistry or physics.
  • An interest in requirements management, V&V and multidisciplinary product development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a logical and methodical approach.
  • The confidence and communication skills to influence people without relying on formal authority.
  • A proactive, engaging personality and the ability to build relationships across different teams and levels of the business.
  • The organisation and attention to detail needed to manage technical information and documentation accurately.
  • The adaptability to work effectively in a dynamic, evolving clean-technology environment.
  • The right to work in the UK without sponsorship, now or in the future.

Working pattern

The role will initially be based onsite at H-Power's Dunsfold facility five days per week during the three-month probation period, with occasional ad-hoc home working where appropriate. After probation, the position will move to a hybrid pattern with three days per week onsite.
